You may have heard in the last few days that Topeka, Kansas renamed itself  Google, Kansas, in a bid to aid being chosen for Google’s Fiber offer.

Now, the San Jose branch of the Biz Journal (which brings us our own Orlando Business Journal) reports that Duluth Minnesota has upped the ante with a YouTube spoof video (introduced by Duluth’s real mayor).  In this video, the fake mayor announces that all first-born males must be named after Google (among other things, like congratulating them on sucking up first.)

On the serious side, this video points people to the website they setup to raise support for bringing Google Fiber to their town.

The science-fiction, fantasy, anime, and comics convention “MegaCon” will be in town March 12 to 14, 2010.

It even has something for car enthusiasts. For fans of the old “Speed Racer” show, a real Mach-5 will be shown.  Also, a car based on the GhostBusters ECTO-1B (video game version) by the Palm Coast Ghostbusters will be there.

Comedy Central comedian (and Daily Show spin-off) Stephen Colbert has always made a big deal of Give-Me-Apple-Gadgets on his show, all the way to making his own versions of Apple TV ads.  Now he shows off while reading the nominees at the Grammy awards.  I love the question he asks his wife from the stage.

Sorry Dear iPhone readers, I could only find Flash videos.   Our thanks to HuffingtonPost.com for the video feed.

You can see more of Colbert’s bits with Apple by searching his website ColbertNation.com Perhaps ironically,  Stephen is sponsored by Verizon.

Some quick links (remember, this is a late-night show so viewer discretion is advised, and a commercials is played before the content.)

I haven’t had time to look into the full list of Colbert-Apple moments, but if you find more on the Colbert site (not YouTube please)  you can send suggestions to us at  ideas@flmug.org

I was helping a friend order an etched iPod from Apple before going off to duty in the military. We got to having too much fun with Apple’s preview on the web page.  I thought I’d share some of the things we tried. (Name changed to protect, well, you know.)

MacBook Armor? Or Camouflage?

From TwelveSouth ,  the BookBook gives your MacBook a case that looks like an old hardback book.  Is that armor?  Or camouflage? (Or both?)
